Dadaocheng
In the early days, goods imported from overseas were unloaded at nearby wharves and transported to Dihua Street for trade. Many merchants prospered through commerce and built elegant houses. To adapt to Taiwan's rainy climate, the buildings were designed with covered arcades, while their façades were adorned with Western-style decorative elements, creating a distinctive architectural style that blends Chinese and Western influences.
Dihua Street is the best-known street in Dadaocheng. Visitors can explore shops offering dried goods, traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, woven crafts, and a variety of local specialties. The area is also home to several designated historic sites, including the Taipei Xia-Hai City God Temple, Cisheng Temple, and Sin Hong Choon Tea Museum, where the rich history and cultural heritage of old Taipei have been carefully preserved.
Today, Dadaocheng retains its charm, with red-brick buildings, traditional tiled roofs, and nostalgic streetscapes blending harmoniously with modern architecture.
